Civil Engineering Course & Architectural Design Course|Saga University

Outline

Introduction

Civil Engineering Course and Architectural Design Course, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Saga University, Japan, consists of six (6) specializing areas: Geotechnical Engineering,Environmental System Engineering,Structural Engineering and Mechanics,Social Systems Management,Architecture and Urban Design, and Environmental Design for Architecture. Civil Engineering Course aims to educate human resources who have a broad education and specialized knowledge in the field of urban infrastructure engineering, and who can play an active role in a wide range of fields related to construction, transportation, electric power, gas, and other urban infrastructure as engineers who can contribute to the construction of safe, secure, and prosperous local communities. Architectural Design Course aims to educate human resources who can play an active role in a wide range of fields in society, such as architecture and urban planning, as engineers who have a broad education and a specialized background in the field of architectural and environmental design, and who can creatively present the way space should be in architecture and its surrounding environment, and contribute to the creation of attractive and rich regions. These two courses will provide you with a sound understanding of basic knowledge of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and current engineering practice and architecture design. Students will develop skills through design projects, internships and researches for graduation thesis.

History

The predecessor of the Civil Engineering Course and the Architectural Design Course,SAGA University was the Department of Civil Engineering, which was established in 1970. In 1980s, Japanese economy rapidly expanded and developed, and there was a demand of more civil engineers at that time. Under this kind of circumstance, a sister department named Department of Construction Engineering had been created, and the number of students had been double with a total number of yearly enrollment of 90 students. In 1991, the Institute of Lowland Technology (ILT) was established to strengthen research on soft ground countermeasures and comprehensive water management, which are issues facing the region. In 1997, the Department of Civil Engineering and the Department of Construction Engineering had been combined to form a new Department of Civil Engineering. In 2006, in response to strong demand from students and the local community, the Department of Architecture and Urban Design was expanded to include the following areas, two educational course, namely Environmental and Infrastructure Course and Architecture and Urban Design Course, had been introduced. In 2019, with the reorganization of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (one faculty, one department system), we started anew as Civil Engineering Course and the Architectural Design Course.
